I believe the consensus is correct. When I went from stock size to my 17" 215/45 and 235/40 combo, I noticed the tendency to track the irregualarities more. But mine is not problematic, just a bit more "darty" than the stock set up.

Despite the spacers, the 3rd gen wheels and the 2nd gen suspension just don't work perfectly together. An incorrect offset can cause erratic wandering plus increased stresses to the suspension and steering components. It is also probable that the wider 225 tires with stiffer 50 series sidewalls make the car follow changes in the rad surface more drastically. This is basically an unavoidable characteristic of wide tires and stiff sidewalls.
